Vice Admiral Satish Soni is the new commandant of the National Defence Academy. He has taken over from Vice Admiral R K Dhowan who is now the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff.
According to NDA spokesperson,Soni is a navigation and direction specialist. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (48 th Course,Lima Sqn) and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1976.
A Sword of Honour of his Course,he is also an alumnus of the prestigious Defence Service Staff College,Wellington and has undergone various courses including the Naval Higher Command Course at College of Naval Warfare,Mumbai,said NDA sources.
The Vice Admiral is a qualified Ships Diving Officer and he has been the Commissioning Commanding Officer of two warships in Russia INS Kakinada,a Natya Class Minesweeper and INS Talwar,Indias first Guided Missile Stealth Frigate. The Vice Admiral has also commanded frontline warships INS Kirpan,a missile corvette and INS Delhi,Indias first Guided Missile Destroyer, said the NDA spokesperson.
