Vasantotsav to kick off on February 7

The fourth edition of Vasantotsav,the annual event in memory of vocalist pandit Vasantrao Deshpande will take place from February 5- 7 this year. The event will take place at the New English School,Ramanbaug ground.

The fourth edition of Vasantotsav,the annual event in memory of vocalist pandit Vasantrao Deshpande will take place from February 5- 7 this year. The event will take place at the New English School,Ramanbaug ground.

“This year,the event will begin with the performance by celebrated vocalist from the Patiala gharana Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty followed by a special programme by Trilok Gurtu,son of legendary performer Shobha Gurtu. The programme will be an amalgamation of classical music,natya sangeet and bhajans. Gurtu will be accompanied by Nitin Shankar,Druv Ghanekar and Ravi Chari,” said Rahul Deshpande of Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Pratishthan,the organisers of the show.

The first day will conclude with a performance by Rahul Deshpande and Mahesh Kale. Also present on the occasion was Dajikaka Gadgil of P N Gadgil jewellers who said,“Starting this year,we would be providing complete support to this wonderful event. Started in memory of legend Vasantrao Deshpande,this event will surely acquire the status of a Sawai Gandharva festival one day.” Tickets for the event will be available from January 26 at Balgandharva,Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium,Tilak Smarak Mandir,P N Gadgil outlets,Navadukar musicals and Shirish Traders.

Symbiosis students robbed

Two law students of Symbiosis College were robbed off their mobile phones,wrist watches and debit cards when they went for a stroll near their college on Thursday afternoon. Swasti Subratkumar Ray (19),a student of the first-year law course has lodged a complaint at the Deccan Gymkhana police station.

Police have launched the search for a history sheeter Somnath Dhotre. Police said that Swasti with her friend Sudhanshu Giriraj Nima (20), were all of a sudden attacked by a robber with a knife at the Tekdi behind Symbiosis. The robber also got the couple to reveal the pin number of the debit card and withdrew cash of Rs 13,500 from an ATM.
