V-P poll held through secret ballot, how can BJP allege cross-voting: Supriya Sule

In the V-P poll, NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan, who was the former Maharashtra Governor, was elected India’s 15th Vice-President on Tuesday, defeating B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule Wednesday questioned BJP’s claim that the Opposition MPs cross-voted during the Vice-Presidential election asking how can they make such a statement when the voting was done through secret ballot.

“It was a secret ballot for the election of Vice-President. How can they say that there was cross-voting by MPs of Opposition parties. I will write to the President saying there was something fishy with the BJP claiming cross-voting while the election was secret,” she said in Pune.

On the BJP’s claim that cross-voting was by MPs of Opposition parties of Maharashtra, she said that the voting was done by MPs from the entire country but allegations being levelled on MPs of Maharashtra is an attempt to defame the state.

In the V-P poll, NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan, who was the former Maharashtra Governor, was elected India’s 15th Vice-President on Tuesday, defeating B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

Sule was participating in a morcha of her party in the city against Maharashtra Special Public Security Act.

Sule said there was no need for a Bill against Naxalism as such laws already exist out country.

“We are opposing the Act and the Maharashtra government should withdraw it. We will fight as responsible citizens against it,” the NCP(SP) leader said.

Sule also said that the Indian government should clear its stand on tariffs by the US.

On the reports of the new IT Park in Purandar, she said, “I am worried about problems being faced at the IT Park in Hinjewadi and Kharadi.”
