His debut tour has begun with a thrill. In India for the first time,Canadian Electronic Dance Music (EDM) producer Felix Cartal visited the Tatoba Tiger Reserve, about three hours away from Nagpur. And just a night before his performance in Mumbai on October 30,he saw a tiger run past him in the forest. My friends have come and played in India before. I have heard stories from them about how exciting it is to perform here. But I dont know what to expect till I interact with my audience during my performance, says Cartal, who apart from being hopelessly in love with EDM,loves travelling, trying out different cuisines and blogging.
His music includes juxtaposed elements, hard hitting sounds are caressed with soft lyrics that ring in a variety of moods and emotions. Even a novice to EDM would not find it difficult to get accustomed to his music. While it automatically sets one grooving, there is something about it that sets it apart from commercial remixes. I dont confine myself to using only one style of EDM in one track. I mix the styles so that my music can appeal to a larger audience, says Cartal, who got into the EDM scene in Canada at the age of 19.
After his first production,Moss v/s Trees,Cartal uploaded it on his blog. It got a good response and soon Steve Aoki got in touch with me for a record deal, says Cartal, who recently launched his EP titled Past Present.
This year,I made a choice to stop writing songs for clubs and work on songs which one could enjoy anytime. I tried to go back to my teenage years when I played with a band and have brought in diverse emotions to my songs for the EP, says Cartal.
He shares that it was during his performance at Tomorrowland earlier this year that Nikhil Chinappa from Submerge invited him for an India tour. Nikhil heard my set at the music festival and asked me if I would come and tour India. I had not been here before and it was an opportunity for me to explore a new place, new music and new experiences so I said why not, says the 26-year-old.
The EP features four songs Young love is a fun song about the honeymoon period of anything that excites someone; After dark is a song about getting home in the wee hours after a party; Katsu is an instrumental track and New scene is about finding your ground and doing what you love to.
