Pimpri Chinchwad police have booked four people in connection with the fire at a sparkling candle manufacturing unit at Jyotiba Nagar, Talwade which killed six people and injured ten others on Friday afternoon. (Express File Photo)Officials from Pimpri- Chinchwad police said the death toll in the fire at a sparkling candle manufacturing unit at Jyotiba Nagar in Talawade rose to nine, with one more fatality being reported on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the reports of the forensic DNA analysis of the six persons, who were charred to death beyond recognition, were received by the police on Sunday evening.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Kakasaheb Dole said, “We have received the results of the forensic analysis comprising DNA-based identification. The tests confirm identities of the six people, who died in the fire accident. The remains of these six persons will be handed over to the family members on Monday morning. Meanwhile, the total number of deaths in the incident has risen to nine with one more person succumbing to severe burns during treatment. Seven others are still in a critical condition.”
Police and authorities at the Sassoon Hospital identified the ninth deceased as Shilpa Rathod (31). Earlier, police booked four people under Sections 304 (2), 285, 286 (negligent conduct with respect to fire, combustible matter, explosive substance), 337, 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety) of the IPC and sections of the Explosives Act. Till now, three people have been arrested in the case.
