Three unidentified persons cheated a youth by making him pay Rs 42,000 for treatment of a person injured in an accident that never happened. Later, victim Rohit Gundappa Lokhande (27) of Navi Peth,an MBA graduate, lodged a complaint at the Vishrambag police station.
The incident took place on April 28. The Pune police today released the sketch of the three persons. Senior police inspector Motichand Rathod of the Vishrambag police station said Lokhande did his MBA from abroad and has recently started a construction business in the city.
Three unidentified persons went to Lokhandes house in Navi Peth around 3 pm on April 28. They blamed Lokhande for knocking down a woman while driving at Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk on F C Road. One of the trio claimed that he was the husband of the woman, said Rathod.
The trio told Lokhande that his car ran over the womans leg and she suffered injuries. Her five-month-old child she was carrying also fell on the road and got injured. The trio then demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 from Lokhande for the treatment of the woman and the child, said Rathod.
Lokhande thought that the accident may have happened as the trio threatened that he would be beaten up by the people if he fails to give the compensation amount. So Lokhande agreed to pay the money, he said.
Later, the trio along with Lokhande went to an ATM near Balgandharva. Lokhande withdrew Rs 32,000 from the ATM and gave it to the suspects. He further went home and paid of Rs 12,000 more in cash. Then he called up his father in Aurangabad and narrated the incident. After discussing the issue with father,he realised that no such accident took place and the three persons who took money from him were fraudsters. So he lodged a police complaint at Vishrambag police station, said Rathod.
Based on the description given by the complainant, the police artist has drawn the sketch of the three suspects. Police have appealed the citizens to call at 020- 24457750 for giving any information about the suspects.
