THREE PERSONS including a driver of a car and two persons in a tempo were injured in the collision of the two vehicles on Manjari Mundhwa Road in the early hours of Tuesday. Police said the driver of the car, Saurabh Gaikwad (25), is the son of former deputy mayor of Pune and NCP (SP) leader Bandu Gaikwad, and was allegedly driving on the wrong side. Police said they were investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The accident took place around 4.30 am on Tuesday in Z Corner area on Mundhwa Manjari Road. The two other persons, Deepak Hivrale (30) and Raja Shaikh (29), driver and cleaner of the tempo that was transporting chicken, have sustained minor injuries in the accident. Senior Inspector Santosh Pandhare, in-charge of Hadapsar police station, said, "Three persons including the driver of the car Saurabh Gaikwad and two persons in the tempo have been injured in the accident. By the time a team from the police station reached the spot, Gaikwad had been admitted to a hospital. We have not yet arrested him." An officer from Hadapsar police station said they will investigate whether or not he was under the influence of alcohol. Officials said Saurabh is the son of Sunil Gaikwad, also known as Bandu Gaikwad, a leader of NCP (SP) who is Pune's former deputy mayor.
