Ganesh Festival has lost its sheen for the families of thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff in government-aided primary and secondary schools in Pune as they are yet to receive last months salary.
Non-teaching staff association members said despite visiting the finance department of the Directorate of Education thrice in the past ten days, there is no update on the salary.
The teachers are hit but the worst affected are clerks and peons. Many of them have to pay their loan installments but this month they have not been able to do so. To make matter worse, its a festive season, said Vinayak Kulkarni,President,Pune District Non-teaching Staff Association.
He added,There are around 50,000 teachers and 12,000 non-teaching staffers in government-aided primary and secondary schools.
Financial department officials said the delay by schools in sending the required information has resulted in the salaries not being paid on time.
As per the guidelines from the state government,we are supposed to pay the salaries through Shalarth,an online payment system. We had asked all schools in the district to send details of the teaching and the non-teaching staff to the education department. But,the schools delayed the process and we could not disburse salary, said an official of the finance department.
