Ahead of Road Safety Week,IT professionals Bhushan Agarwal and Dinesh Shenv, are cycling 500 kms, from Pune to Goa,to spread awareness about safety measures
They both are software engineers who share a passion for cycling. It is this common thread that fuelled their decision to cycle from Pune to Goa. The approximately 500-km journey began on Sunday,December 25. Bhushan Agarwal and Dinesh Shenvi have been colleagues at an IT company for the last six years. We decided to undertake this long journey in order to encourage more people to cycle, they say. Their track will go through Satara,Kolhapur,Nipani and Sawantwadi and will finally conclude at Calangute Beach in Goa on December 29.
To cycle such a long distance, fitness is a priority. We have been preparing for this journey for the last six months. Everyday,we cycled 20 kms around the city while on weekends we extended it to nearly 50 kms, revealed Shenvi.
To attract people towards their cause, they will be spotted in neon t-shirts. A utility vehicle will accompany them with medical kits, safety devices, puncture kits, and other requirements. Their daily journeys will begin at 4 am and end by 12 noon “to avoid sun burn, Shenvi said.
Why did they pick this period for their adventure? Because everyone knows that during this festive season, many people drink and drive. Thus,it’s a perfect time to educate them, they added.
