Three artistes, working with different mediums of art,are showcasing their work at Bahuroopi,an ongoing exhibition
One is a painting, the other a papier-mache sculpture and another a photograph creations by different artistes, reflecting the different forms of art, will be showcased under one roof,at an art exhibition Bahuroopi. The works include paintings by Saaz Aggarwal, papier mache sculptures by Bharati Pitre and photographs by Sandesh Bhandare.
Aggarwals paintings, displayed at Bahuroopi, are called Mumbai Cliches. Though,in the past, she has exhibited her paintings in Mumbai a number of times, this is her very first exhibition in Pune. Having spent my formative years in Mumbai,I feel more aligned and connected with Mumbai. But I do hope that this exhibition will bring me closer to Pune, she adds.
A trained commercial artist, who has specialised in illustration,Bharati Pitre feels that displaying work in a group exhibition that includes artistes from completely different fields, works in favour of each artiste. Commenting on the similarities between their creations, she says,The humour and sarcasm is portrayed with similar sensibilities in our respective works. When it comes to papier mache sculpting,Pitre expresses subjects close to her heart through human figures and animals and sometimes a combination of the two. All my creations make a bold statement. But in the future,I would like to work on a larger scale, making a more prominent and in-your-face statement, says the artiste.
Having done a number of solo as well as group exhibitions in the city, photographer Bhandare feels that Pune is not yet ready for emerging and newer forms of art. Visual literacy will take its course in the coming years. Unfortunately, art is not a priority for the populace; they have other things to worry about, he adds.
(Bahuroopi is on till September 30 at Tilting Art Gallery,Ishanya Mall,Viman Nagar)
