A 24-year-old software engineer working for a firm in Pune’s Warje area died while her friend sustained injuries when the bike they were riding on rammed a road divider near Baner on the Katraj Dehu bypass of the Mumbai-Bangalore highway early Tuesday.
Officials from Hinjewadi police station identified the deceased as Megha Barhate (24), who hailed from Bhusaval in Jalgaon district. She was riding pillion of the bike. Her colleague Kedar Rajaram Waghmare (23), who was riding the bike, was also injured in the accident.
Megha’s father Mohan Barhate, registered a complaint at Hinjewadi police station on Tuesday afternoon. “Initial probe suggests that the two attended a programme organised by their company and were returning home. The bike hit the divider at high speed, because of which both fell down and sustained injuries,” said an officer from Hinjewadi police station.
While Megha succumbed to her injuries, Waghmare is undergoing treatment. Police have booked him for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
