Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had directed the setting up of a committee headed by the Joint Charity Commissioner of PuneA committee headed by the Pune Joint Commissioner of Charity set up to investigate the incident at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, which allegedly denied admission to a pregnant woman for not depositing Rs 10 lakh as advance, submitted its report on Thursday.
The hospital is under fire from political parties and several groups have protested at its premises after Tanisha Bhise, in her early thirties, was allegedly denied admission for not paying an advance of Rs 10 lakh. She died at Manipal Hospital at Baner on March 31, two days after she delivered twins at Surya Hospitals, Wakad, in Pune.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had directed the setting up of a committee headed by the Joint Charity Commissioner of Pune. When contacted, Rajni Kshirsagar, Joint Charity Commissioner, Pune, said the panel had submitted its report to the law and justice department.
Meanwhile, a previous committee headed by Dr Radhakishan Pawar, deputy director of health, Pune, in its report said the hospital violated norms that prohibited charitable hospitals from demanding advance payments in emergency cases.
Another maternal death review committee headed by Dr Nina Borade, Chief Medical Officer, Pune Municipal Corporation, has also been set up to inquire into delay in treatment in the case. “Our report is being finalised,” Dr Borade said.
The Maharashtra Medical Council, which had suo motu sent a notice to the authorities at Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital, has received the report. Dr Vinky Rughwani, administrator at MMC, said they had not received any complaint from the relatives of the patient and had decided suo motu to inquire into the case. “We had sent a notice to Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital asking for details of the case and role of doctors. They have sent us a report. We will also be sending a notice to gynaecologist Dr Sushrut Ghaisas about details of the case,” Dr Rughwani said.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has sent a notice to 650 hospitals directing them not to take any advance from patients in emergency cases. Dr Laxman Gophane, Medical Officer of Health, PCMC, said instructions had been issued to hospitals to treat emergency patients without taking a deposit.
