Pune’s very own confectionery pioneer and noted philanthropist Narsimha Bhaskar Chitale,lovingly called ‘Rajabhau’ Chitale,passed away on October 13 in the city. A partner in the famed Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale,Chitale had been suffering from a breathing disorder for the last two years. Chitale leaves a legacy of ensuring the availability of qualitative food items and milk pouches. The establishment that he brought many innovations to,is synonymous for the bhakarwadi culture that it kick-stared in the city. It continues to wow city-dwellers with its mouth-watering array of high quality snacks,namkeen,ready mixes and dairy products.
Rajabhau spearheaded the expansion of the family business in the city by establishing a major outlet at Deccan Gymkhana. Born on August 22,1932 at Kolhapur,Chitale is a past president of the Mithai Association of India. He was also a member of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce,Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). National Agriculture and Food Analysis and Research Institute (NAFARI) counted him as one its board members.
