Yerawada police have booked a suspended corporator and a woman candidate from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for allegedly submitting fake caste certificates for the civic polls.

Seema Renuse Phuge and Anita Dhage Lande had contested the civic polls last year from Bhosari Gaothan. Phuge won the election while Lande stood second in the list. A candidate, who stood third, had later approached the PCMC administration with a complaint that the two had submitted invalid caste certificates during the polls. After an inquiry,PCMC commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi had suspended Phuge about a month ago.

On Wednesday,Sudam Darekar,an inspector with the caste certificate verification committee, approached the police with a complaint of forgery of caste certificates against Phuge and Lande. The two have been booked under Sections 567,467 (forgery of valuable documents),471 (forgery to cheat),420 (cheating). Assistant police inspector Dhanaji Shingade is investigating the case.
