With deteriorating civic facilities becoming a growing concern for Hinjewadi residents, NCP (SP) executive president Supriya Sule has demanded an independent authority be formed to address public grievances related to the area in a timely manner. Sule has requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take serious cognisance of the matter and consider taking a positive decision on her demand.
“There is a significant delay in resolving infrastructure-related issues in the areas of Rajiv Gandhi IT Park, Hinjewadi, Maan, and Marunji. Citizens are compelled to follow up with multiple agencies such as Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Municipal Corporations, Metro rail, Pune Metro Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra State Electricity Development Corporation (MSEDCL), and the Police Department, resulting in considerable loss of time and mental distress,” said Sule.
“To avoid inconvenience to the public, there is an urgent need to establish an independent authority encompassing Rajiv Gandhi IT Park, Hinjawadi, Maan, Marunji, and adjoining areas. A competent officer should be appointed to head this authority,” added Sule.

The Rajiv Gandhi IT park at Hinjewadi was developed by MIDC, which has been responsible for its development and maintenance of basic infrastructure. The surrounding area was later developed and witnessed rapid urbanisation as a result of the IT Park, which is among one of the largest in the country.
However, the area around the IT park falls under PCMC and PMRDA jurisdictions while it is adjoining the PMC jurisdiction.
A sizeable population that works at Hinjewadi IT Park commutes daily from PMC and PCMC to Hinjewadi and have been facing hardship in their daily commute. To reduce the suffering of citizens, the PMRDA is implementing a Metro rail project from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar. The ongoing work of the metro in Hinjewadi has further added to citizens’ woes as water logging is witnessed in the area during rain due to storm water drains getting blocked due to Metro rail work.
The PMRDA is coordinating with various concerned agencies to address public grievances in a timely manner related to Hinjewadi.

Incidentally, there has been a growing demand to establish a new municipal corporation for Hadapsar and the surrounding area due to rapid urbanisation, which has put pressure on the PMC.
