Sunetra Pawar eyes ministerial berth in Modi govt as she is set to be Rajya Sabha MP
After facing a setback in Lok Sabha election in Baramati against her relative Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar was nominated for the Rajya Sabha election from Maharashtra which is slated to take place on June 26

Though she is yet to become the Rajya Sabha MP for which she has been nominated by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is eyeing a ministerial berth in the Modi Government.
”If I get an opportunity to work as a minister in the central government, I would take it up,” Sunetra Pawar told reporters after she was felicitated by NCP in the city on Friday.
After facing a setback in the Lok Sabha election in Baramati against her relative Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar was nominated for the Rajya Sabha election from Maharashtra which is slated to take place on June 26. NCP spokesperson Sanjay Tatkare said on June 18, Sunetra will be declared elected unopposed.
When asked which ministry Sunetra would like to hold, she said she would take up whichever ministry is given. ”I will do justice to the ministry given to me,” she said.
Sunetra Pawar said the enthusiasm among NCP workers has given her new strength. ”During Lok Sabha election campaigning, I interacted with citizens and got to know several problems they faced. Now after becoming the MP, I will resolve their problems. I will try to ensure development of other cities like it has been done in Baramati,” she said.
Sunetra Pawar said the NCP is analysing the reasons behind her defeat in Baramati Lok Sabha elections. ”We respect people’s verdict. We are analysis the defeat. In the coming assembly elections, the NCP will certainly do well. Party workers and leaders have expectations from me,” she said.
Sunetra Pawar was defeated by her husband Ajit Pawar’s cousin Supriya Sule by a margin of over 1.55 lakh votes. Sule told The Indian Express earlier in the week that Sunetra Pawar had not even congratulated her after her victory and neither has she responded to her text messages.
