A day after Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) cited concretisation of open area in housing societies as reason for flooding and waterlogging on streets, NCP MP Supriya Sule said it was the failure of the civic administration to tackle the flooding and waterlogging issue in the city.
“The nullah planning and building permission are done by the PMC. The civic administration is completely responsible for the situation. They have failed,” Sule said after visiting waterlogging spots in various parts of the city. She also discussed the issue with the municipal commissioner.
The infrastructure in the civic jurisdiction has collapsed, she said. The flooding and waterlogging have become frequent in the city and the residents are suffering, she said. “The PMC has been asked to improve the situation in a week or the NCP (SP) will take to the streets over it,” Sule said.

Sule said it was unfortunate that there is an increase of crime incidents involving drugs and other accidents. “People come to the city with the aim of providing good education and a better life to their children and family, but they are made to suffer,” she said.
“There should be action on encroachments in the city. The present incidents might be the beginning and there could be an explosion later on,” Sule said, adding the BJP has been in power from the civic body to the Centre and they made big promises but failed to deliver.
“Those elected should sincerely serve the public and not use politics only to hatch conspiracy to split political parties,” she said. There are lot of expectations from Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, she said.
On the hit-and-run case, Sule said she would personally look into the case along with city legislator Ravindra Dhangekar to ensure that the two innocent youths who lost their lives get justice.

On legislators of NCP led by Ajit Pawar reaching out to her, she said, “Any decision on the request of NCP legislators to join NCP (SP) will be taken after discussing with the party cadre and it would be unanimous.”
Incidentally, the Congress, BJP, MNS, AAP have already blamed the civic administration for the flooding and waterlogging in the city. The AAP has pointed out that the civic administration has woken up to the situation only now by floating tenders to clean storm water drains.
