(Representational Photo) A 21-year-old student allegedly stabbed to death her 22-year-old boyfriend, who was also her classmate, with a kitchen knife and was herself injured in the scuffle following an argument on Monday morning at an apartment in Wagholi, Pune city police said.
Police have identified the deceased as Yashwant Munde (22), who hailed from Latur, and his girlfriend as Anuja Panhale (21), who is from Ahmednagar. The two were classmates at a data science degree course at a Pune college.
Officials said the incident took place at the rented apartment of Munde in a residential complex in Wagholi. Around 6 am on Monday Panhale was spotted by some residents of the building standing in the ground floor space with an injury to her wrist. She told the residents what had happened, after which the police were informed.
“The probe suggests that Munde and Panhale were in a relationship for the last one and a half years. They had been having fights for a few days. On Monday morning they had a heated argument and Panhale allegedly took out a kitchen knife and stabbed Munde in the stomach. She also stabbed him in the chest. She sustained an injury with the same knife during the scuffle. Munde had bled to death before he was taken to a hospital,” said Inspector Gajanan Pawar, in charge of the Lonikand police station.
Inspector Pawar added, “Panhale has sustained an injury on her wrist. She is receiving treatment at a hospital in Pune and yet to be placed under arrest.” Police said that the two had been studying together at Munde’s rented apartment for their ongoing college exams.
