ADDRESSING a joint conclave of the officers of the Southern Command of the Army and Defence Accounts Department (DAD), Southern Army Commander Lt Gen A K Singh on Wednesday highlighted the importance of technology in streamlining processes, reducing errors, and providing real-time insights into financial operations.
The Southern Command on Wednesday conducted a ‘Synergy Conclave on Financial Planning’. The first of its kind conference offered a single platform for the officers of Army and DAD to deliberate on the issued organisational interests, officials said.
Being the largest among the commands of the Indian Army, covering 41 per cent of India’s geographical area, the Southern Command faces typical challenges on the financial management front and thus alignment of procurement policies and procedures holds the key to success, officials said.
A press statement from the Army said, “Speaking on the occasion Lt Gen A K Singh commended the DAD team headed by Dr R S Chavan, Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, for their dedication and hard work, working behind the scenes, ensuring that the defence forces have the resources they need to protect the nation. He highlighted the paramount importance of the advice of DAD officers on financial probity and accountability and the synergised work with the Budget Holders of the Southern Command directly contributing to enhancing the operational effectiveness of the command.”
“The Army Commander brought out that embracing technology can streamline processes, reduce errors, and provide real-time insights into financial operations and listed the numerous initiatives of financial reforms undertaken by Southern Command including the effective utilisation of in-house developed procurement software, PrAS, on Army’s own secure network. The Army Commander stated that upholding high ethical standards is non-negotiable and we must act in a manner by putting the nation’s interests ahead of all. He emphasised that national security concerns are paramount and hence while dealing with micro issues, macro issues to be kept in mind and intent should be paramount.”
