There arent a lot of restaurants in the city that qualify for a first date place. More than the food, the location, the setting, the lighting and the overall ambience, the place has to spell amour. As we walked into Melange, the new restaurant situated on the rooftop of Seasons Hotel in Aundh,
we found one.
Getting out of the elevator,we were pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful sparkling pool, which looked as if it contained bushels of glittering stars. There were two large screens on opposite ends of the dining area, showing a cricket match. The entire restaurant has been done up in subtle colours with gentle lights complimenting the interiors. A pleasant breeze always accompanies the breathtaking view of the city at the restaurant situated on the terrace of the seven-storey building.
There were two seating options available one with the tall bar stool-type chairs and the other with shorter, more traditional chairs. We chose the latter and mulled over the menu, which was surprisingly limited.
We then realised that it was a set menu and you can pick and choose from a range of soups, appetizers, pizzas, main courses and dessert
for a fixed price.
We started with the Mezze patter, with three dips baba ghanoush, hummus and lavneh. While the hummus was smooth and creamy, baba ghanoush made from roasted eggplants, tahini and garlic was interesting and low-key on extreme flavours. We tried Fish Tawook and Lemongrass Chicken next.
Tender as the Lemongrass Chicken was,the flavours were a bit too mild. The Fish Tawook on the other hand red snapper marinated in olive oil and garlic, tossed in a spicy sauce was soft, moist and had a lot of heat. In vegetarian starters, our favourite was the Cheese borek,a preparation made with feta cheese and cashews stuffed inside golden and crispy rolls.
We diverted our atention to the pizza section next, where we chose the Mushroom and Jalapeno Pizza. Served hot in a personal pan, this thin-crust pizza was a haunting combination of crunchy base and soft yet perfectly-baked mushrooms. For the main course,we chose the Spinach and Cheese Cannelloni. The plump pasta
was stuffed with creamy spinach and cheese, making for a well-balanced smooth main course.
For the lack of space in our bellies,we decided to go with
Warm Apple Crumble. A good-sized portion, the apple pie was baked to perfection, with the apples and raisins melting together properly.
As we dug our forks into the pie,the already melting ice cream formed enticing rivulets around it and as in the mouth, the sweet, crumbly, soft and chewy senses exploded together. For a served buffet, the menu was slightly limited but the overall experience was value to money.
