The Wadgaon Maval court on Monday extended the police custody of advocate Vijay Dabhade, arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of Right To Information (RTI) activist Satish Shetty, till January 28. Arrested on January 15,Dabhades police custody had lapsed on Monday.
Along with Dabhade, the Pune rural police have arrested four more persons Parshuram Telgu alias Jakkal,Pramod Dattatraya Waghmare,Dengaraya Hanumanta Rathod alias Dongaraya and Navnath Shelar in this case. Dabhade,Telgu and Waghmare were produced before the court on Monday where judicial magistrate (first class) R D Hazare extended their police custody till January 28.
Defence counsel Ravidra Yadav, however, said Dabhade has been falsely implicated in the murder case. It is true that Dabhade had offered a supari of Rs 1 lakh to kill Shetty earlier. But the contract killers had refused to kill Shetty. Thereafter, the dispute between Shetty and Dabhade was resolved, Yadav said.
Yadav opposed the Narco and brain mapping test of Dabhade, saying that police have not even questioned the persons, including the office-bearers of the two big companies that have been mentioned in the first information report in this case. Using RTI,Shetty had exposed the scams committed by these companies, he said.
Deputy superintendent of police Dilip Shinde told the court that Dabhade was the main conspirator in Shettys murder on January 13. Shinde said Dabhade and his associate Jakkal kept a close watch on Shetty for a few days before the day he was murdered.
They briefed the murder plan to the assailants Shelar,Rathod and Sham Dabhade, the latter is yet to be arrested. Dabhade also told the assailants about possible exit routes after murdering Shetty.
Assistant public prosecutor Shashikant Shinde said police have seized the motorcycle used by the suspects for studying the movements of Shetty in Talegaon. Shinde said police have re-constructed the crime scene and investigation is on to know exactly how the murder was carried out.
Extension of police custody for the suspects was sought for recovering the weapons used for murdering Shetty,he said.
Police said scars on the hands of Rathod, who was one of the assailants to attack Shetty with sharp weapons, matched with the description given by an eyewitness.
