Sharad Pawar urges Maharashtra govt to resolve Maratha-OBC tiff

Final decision on seat-sharing likely in next 10 days.

Sharad PawarPawar also said that a final decision on seat-sharing of the Maha Vikas Aghadi allies for the upcoming Assembly polls is likely in the next 10 days.

NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar Sunday urged the Maharashtra government to ensure that a congenial atmosphere is created in the state amid the tiff between Maratha and OBC communities over reservation.

“There is no reason to create to tension. Even though we practice different religions and belong to different castes, we all are Indians. We are all part of Maharashtra. All the stakeholders should ensure that there is a sense of understanding that pervades all sections of society. The government should also take steps to include such people while making a decision about them and ensure that a congenial atmosphere prevails,” Pawar told media persons in Baramati.

Pawar also said that a final decision on seat-sharing of the Maha Vikas Aghadi allies for the upcoming Assembly polls is likely in the next 10 days.

“We are conducting a study about the aspirants. Our state president Jayant Patil will conduct an interview of the aspirants and take the final decision. All three key partners of MVA will come together and fight the elections. We are debating as to who should contest from where. We have been holding discussions for the last three days. We hope to take a final call on seat-sharing in the next 10 days,” he said.

Claiming that the people of Maharashtra want a change, Pawar said, “Five years back, only one Congress MP was elected while NCP had four MPs. This time, out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, 30 have been won by MVA. The change is in the air and it is inevitable. The atmosphere is in favour of MVA. People want a change. They want to cast aside BJP and its partners,” he said.

Pawar also criticised the state government for allegedly not reaching out to farmers hit by the recent excess rain.

“The government has failed to offer balm to those farmers hit by excess rain. The government had promised help but so far, large number of farmers have been deprived of the assistance. These farmers are upset. We will wait for sometime and then meet the chief minister to take up the farmers cause,” he said.
