With the district collectors of Valsad, Navsari, and Surat issuing prohibitory orders, seven beaches in South Gujarat won’t be accessible to the public till June 7. The orders came after the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) of strong surface winds along and off north and south Gujarat coasts due to “steep pressure gradient’.

The beaches that have been temporarily closed are Dumas and Suvali in Surat, Ubharat and Dandi in Navsari; and Tithal, Umargam and Nargol in Valsad. Security has been tightened at the beaches.

Alert has been sounded in around 90 villages in the coastal area of Valsad. Valsad District Collector Ayush Oak said, “We have deployed police staff on the beaches. We have also alerted fishermen not to venture into the sea.”
