Drama and glamour

Guests at the Turf Club,Pune were treated to an evening of high-street fashion and theatre after the McDowell Signature Premier Indian St Ledger (Grade 1) race on Saturday,September 29. Entertaining short one-act performances by Aditya Rawal and Darshan Jariwala got the audiences rolling with laughter. Rawal’s hilarious performance was based on a short story in which a character named Shobit Pate goes to US Consulate for VISA application while Jariwala’s narrative focused on the difficulties a character has while he desperately tries to get a passport from the government offices. Bombay Talkies, written and directed by Vikram Kapadia, was another play staged at the event by Red Box Productions. The event got it’s touch of glamour as models Alisya Raut,Chahat Sabhaji,Tasneem Jamal,Sandhya Lakhanpal and Soni Kaur walked the ramp to showcase designer Swapnil Shinde’s vibrant new collection that was an amalgamation of chic, bold, pretty and petite ensembles. Shinde’s collection featured the true blue Mumbai street fashion with colourful flowy skirts, sober gowns in hues of ash grey and yellow as well as metallic hot pants teamed with well-fitted shirts accessorised with ‘dubbas’ or ‘a mamu’s lathi’ that add oodles of oomph to the ‘Aamchi Mumbai’ look. ‘In the Spot Light’,owned by Capt. Jamshed Appoo, trained by S Padmanabhan and ridden by Jockey David Allan won the race.
