Ask Raikar about the inspiration behind this art work and he says,”I have traveled to a lot of tribal areas near Amravati,Satara,Mankil. There I realised that women play a pivotal role in taking the community ahead. My paintings express the idea of a free woman.” Based in Goa,Raikar graduated from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya,Pune in 1978. He has showcased his work in 15 independent shows and several group shows and exhibits his work internationally.

The paintings in the exhibition are based on mixed media. “I have used charcoal,acrylic,pencil and pen. I like experimenting with different mediums,” he says. The artist classifies his paintings in a different style,which he has named as Kamroop Chitra Shaili. “A lot of hard work goes into this art work. Sometimes I spend more than 200 hours to get one 21 x 27 inch painting prepared. The intricacies and the minuteness of the patterns are the most important aspects,” he says. While this series was inspired by tribal life,most of his paintings are based on Gods and Goddesses. “Ours is the most ancient of all cultures. We thrive on tradition. I try to bring out this element in my paintings,” he says.
