Marathi Bhasha Diwas and National Science Day celebrated

To mark the Marathi Bhasha Diwas,students of New Millennium High School dressed in the traditional attire took out a procession of books in a palanquin. They read out self-composed poems and performed a skit to illustrate the importance of languages as the most important mode of communication. Recitation of poems of eminent poets like Suresh Bhatt was followed by Katha Kathan. Students prepared charts that were displayed for parents. The programme was anchored by Akanksha Arekar and Rushikesh Patil trained by teacher Ganesh Bande. The day was also celebrated in the primary section headed by Jaishree Mali.

For Science Day,the theme was how to use recyclable material. The introduction was done by Kavita Nandre followed by a rangoli-making competition for which the theme was Science Day. Students spoke about the importance of science and technology. Poems were also read out pertaining to the theme. A skit was performed by the students to illustrate the importance of ‘Analytical Thinking over Superstition’.

Both the programmes were attended by management members Viju Anna Jagtap (vice-president) and Shankar Jagtap (secretary) among others. Guidance was given by Principal Sunita S Phadke.

Fun Fair held at Judson High School

The Judson Fun Fair held on February 21 was a grand success. Parents as well as students thoroughly enjoyed playing a variety of games like ringing the article,balancing the bottle,passing the key et al. Exciting prizes were given to all the winners. Students and their parents repeatedly visited stalls like lucky dip and tumbling glasses with curiosity to know the hidden gifts.

Thinking Day held at Judson High

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord & Lady Baden Powell, Judson celebrated February 22 as Thinking Day. The picture of Sir Baden Powell was garlanded by Principal Francisca Saldanha. Scoutmaster Lucy D’cruz led the programme that began with the flag hoisting after which students sang the Scout/Guide prayer and flag song followed by a short skit on kindness.

Talents galore at Indradhanu

Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali’s SPM Primary School organised its annual prize distribution ceremony ‘Indradhanu’ along with a mini-concert at Tilak Smarak Mandir,Pune,on March 1. The stage was set on fire with the enthusiastic performances of the children who showcased their various,vibrant talents. The atmosphere was charged with zest and zeal as the children performed. The chief guest for the day was renowned artist Ravindra Khare. The committee members of the school board were also present. SPM School trains the children in different fine arts. Dance,music,drama and tabla performances marked Indradhanu.

A very heart touching play,based on child abuse,was performed by the pre-primary teachers. Headmistress Madhavi Bhadgaonkar gave credit to the hardwork and efforts of the teachers and students.

Surya Namaskar at Muktangan school

Surya Namaskar is considered one of the most divine exercises. February 18,2013,was celebrated as Surya Namaskar Day at the national level. At Muktangan English School,Junior College,Class CI students demonstrated it with great enthusiasm. On the occasion,Principal Anjali Kaniwale addressed the students. In her speech,she elaborated the importance of this exercise and motivated the students to do the same everyday.

Science Day held at SPM English School

SPM English School,Secondary Section,Pune,celebrated Science Day by conducting a number of activities on February 27 and 28. A lecture was delivered for the students of Class IX by Prof Vinay,a senior chemistry lecturer from SP College. ‘Development of Scientific Attitude’ was the topic. He stressed on the importance of verification of the scientific statements given in textbooks. He explained how a different view of looking at objects can inculcate scientific attitude.

In a special assembly arranged for Class V and VI,a few students introduced themselves as scientists and spoke of their famous inventions,asking other students to identify the person they were posing as – such as J C Bose,Isaac Newton et al. There was a display of science projects,such as the structure of the heart,volcanic eruptions,periscope,cloud formation and convection current to name a few.

A science quiz was arranged for Class VIII by the students of Class IX. The science teachers demonstrated various experiments for Class VII,such as oscillating reactions,blowing of the balloon with the help of acetic acid and baking soda.
