Sawai fest set to dazzle city from Jan 7

The photography exhibition will be held at New English School,Ramanbaug. It will showcase the various moods of the two legendary music maestros. Renowned photographer Satish Paknikar has coordinated the exhibition. Seventy-five photographs of Hangal and Pt Dastur will be on display. “Most of the people have seen photographs of these vocalists clicked while singing. I have tried to include other photographs in which they are chatting with their contemporary vocalists or are seen in a relaxed mood,” said Paknikar.

“There is a photograph of Gangubai Hangal where she is chatting with critic Ram Kolhatkar and at the same time sculptor Sharad Kapuskar is making a sculpture of Gangubai. Dastur’s photograph with P L Deshpande in a lighter mood would also grab eyeballs,” he said.

Of 75 photographs,around 18 are clicked by Paknikar.

“Gangubai’s grandson Manoj and Pt Dastur’s disciple Girish Sanzgiri have provided some off beat photographs of the two maestros that will make the exhibition interesting,” said Paknikar. “Shubhada Mulgund,daughter of Pt Bhimsen Joshi,has helped in writing captions of these photographs,” he added.

Another interesting event will be “Antarang” where music connoisseurs will conduct sessions for keen listeners of Indian classical music. This will be held at Sawai Gandharva Samarak near Rahul Cinema from January 7 to 9 between 12 noon and 1 pm.

Other programmes include interviews of Satyasheel Deshpande and Padma Talwalkar and a special programme designed by Shivanand and Yojana Patil to pay tribute to Gangubai Hangal. There will be a film festival too at Sawai Gandharva Smarak where rare films on music maestros will be screened from 10 am to 12 noon from January 7 to 9.
