Satish Shetty murder: Dabhade gets bail for hernia operation

Additional Sessions Judge U S Thakare granted permission to accused in RTI activist Satish Shetty murder case, lawyer Vijay Dabhade,to get operated on his hernia in Jehangir Hospital.

Additional Sessions Judge U S Thakare granted permission to accused in RTI activist Satish Shetty murder case, lawyer Vijay Dabhade,to get operated on his hernia in Jehangir Hospital. The court allowed Dabhade a time-limit of 15 days for the operation and treatment and said the cost of the operation would be borne by Dabhade.

Dabhade, who had appealed for an interim bail on medical grounds was denied bail, but has been allowed to get treatment for his hernia while he will remain in judicial custody, said advocate Gorakshanath Kale, counsel for Dabhade.

The CBI lawyer objected to allowing Dabhade to be admitted in Jehangir and appealed the court to direct him to Sassoon General Hospital. Kale argued that Dabhade’s medical reports show that he has hernia. Had it been a routine illness,it could have been operated in Sassoon. The court allowed Dabhade to go to Jehangir on the basis of the hospital’s reports submitted by Kale.

The CBI had earlier opposed the interim bail as Dabhade’s counsel had not enclosed medical papers with the bail application to substantiate the claim that his client was in dire need of treatment. The CBI said that Dabhade has been treated for dislocation of shoulder at the jail and that he would be given treatment if he is suffering any other ailment.

Dabhade used to be the counsel of Kanu Padwal, who had built three buildings in Talegaon in 1994 and was exposed by Shetty. In 2002,Shetty found out that Dabhade had built a bungalow on railway land and ran a campaign against him. Satish was murdered in January this year.

The CBI had taken over the case in June following Satish’s brother Sandip Shetty’s demand for a CBI probe.
