The Bombay Engineer Group (BEG) and Centre,Kirkee,teams won the Inter-Centre Recruits Rowing Championship 2010 overall trophy at the College of Military Engineering (CME) recently.
The event was conducted at the army rowing channel at CME under the aegis of BEG and Centre,Kirkee,said a press release. The three training centres of Corps of Engineers Madras Engineer Group and Centre,Bangalore,Bengalb Engineer Group and Centre,Rorkee,Bombay Engineer Group and Centre Kirkee participated in the event.
A total of four races were held on the final day. In the single scull event,Spr Satyawan of BEG,Kirkee,was the winner while as in the double scull Spr Ganesh Pachore and Spr Satyawan of BEG,Kirkee,emerged the winners. In the coxless pair,the last event of Coxless
Four,the team of Spr Suresh,Spr Anbarasu,Spr D M Pandurang and Spr Naveen Kumar of MEG,Banglore,were declared the winners. CME Commandant Lt Gen S S Sengupta gave away the prizes to the winners.
Rowing started in Pune when The Royal Kanad Boat Club was set up in 1868,the release said. The rowing federation was set up in 1979 with a view to promote the rowing in the country,it added.
