Robbery: probe delayed over jurisdiction row

Sources said there was “confusion” about the jurisdiction of the police station under whom the case would be investigated due to which the probe was pending. Finally,on Thursday,the rural police transferred the complaint to Khadak police station. Assistant police inspector S R Shirke of the Khadak police station is now investigating the case.

Police said Shirsath,a computer engineer with Patni Computer Systems,took a Pune-bound bus from Mumbai,where he had gone for some office related work. He got down at Swargate bus terminus on April 29 around 2.15 am. He hired an auto at Shankar Sheth Road for Hadapsar.

But the autorickshaw driver forcibly took him to Wagholi where the driver and two other passengers in the auto took away his gold ring worth Rs 4,000 and left him near Wagheswar temple in Wagholi around 3.45 am.

Then Shirsath approached the Lonikand police station of the Pune rural police as it was nearest to Wagholi and lodged a complaint of robbery against the autorickshaw driver and the two passengers at the police station.

But there was a delay in the investigation as the rural police thought that as Shirsath had hired the autorickshaw from Shankar Sheth Road,which comes under the jurisdiction of Khadak police station of the Pune city police,the investigation would be carried out by the city police.
