Two robbers, armed with wooden sticks, barged into the house of an elderly couple, located in the remote village of Nimgaon Mhalunge, and decamped with all the ornaments they could lay their hands early on Monday morning, but not before assaulting all three adult members of the family.
The elderly couple Sopana Yedu Kamble (55) and his wife Sulubai Kamble (50) received massive head injuries, while their daughter Seema Anil Kamble (25),who was visiting them with her daughter, was badly shaken and also physically wounded. However,Seemas seven-year-old daughter was unhurt,as was her one-year-old niece who was also present in the house. It was Seemas daughter who alerted the neighbours.
Incidentally, all the members of the house were asleep when the robbers broke into the house. Police have put the time of the attack between 3am and 4am.
Police suspect that robbers snatched the ornaments worn by the members of the house before escaping.
An offence has been registered at the Shikrapur police station. Investigating officer, assistant police inspector Umesh Tavaskar said Seemas husband is a driver and was on duty at Lonavla. So she was staying with her parents, located in a remote corner of Nimgaon Mhalunge village.
The badly wounded elderly couple were admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune. Seema, who was also injured, has been admitted to a local hospital. Police failed to get her statement since she was badly shaken.
Police said the neighbours had not been able to hear their cries since the house is located in a very remote area.
