Robber who used sedatives on victims arrested

The city police have recovered 223.3 grams of gold worth Rs 6.6 lakh from a history-sheeter,who allegedly robbed drivers of autorickshaws,tempos and other vehicles after giving them soft drinks laced with sedatives.

A native of Uttar Pradesh,Bilal Saik Khan (42) was found involved in eight crimes in the last one year. He was residing in Chikhli area. Acting on a tip-off,a team of Khadki police,led by senior inspector Bhimrao Tele,laid a trap and nabbed him on July 6.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Sanjay Jadhav said at a press conference that cops wearing uniforms of private security guards were deployed around Vista building at Pawar Vasti in Chikhli to keep a watch on Khans movements before arresting him. Police recovered three cell phones,SIM cards and some sedative tablets from his possession. His interrogation revealed that he drugged and robbed cash,gold and other valuables form drivers at Bhosari,Khadki,Vishrantwadi,Chakan,Swargate and Sahakarnagar. Police said Khan was earlier arrested by the Mumbai police in 2007 but was released on bail in 2009.

Investigation team comprised inspector Nishikant Bhujbal,inspector Shriram Paul and constables Sandip Rathod,Dipak Mane,Raju Mache,Mangesh Pawar,Dilip Lokhande,Basheer Sayyad,Shivaji Rahigude and Pramod Magar.
