Pune railway station is all set to get 5,700 sqm of new parking space and four escalators in the next few months. This was announced by the outgoing Divisional Railway Manager (DRM),Vishal Agarwaal,while speaking to mediapersons on Thursday.
The new parking lot will come up at Porters chawl area and will accommodate two and four wheelers. The escalators will be at various parts of the station. The first one will be near the main booking counter and work for it will begin soon, he said.
The new parking area will be able to address the acute parking problem plaguing the station. Also,Agarwaal said that railway authorities would keep a tab on extended parking to avoid misuse of the parking spot.
Agarwaal,who was appointed as the DRM in April 2011,was transferred to Mumbai on Thursday and Suneet Sharma,chief workshop manager of Parel Workshop,will succeed Agarwaal.
Speaking about the various projects taken up by the railways,Agarwaal said that the new foot-over bridge at the Solapur side of the station was completed in record time. We have undertaken special care for cleanliness of the railway station and have appointed new contractors for it, he added.
Agarwaal further said that Shivajinagar railway station had been identified by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) for improvement and a detailed plan would be made for it soon. We are working on making Hadapsar railway station as a conduit for the north-bound trains and work is in progress, he said.
