Revaluation: State Board gets flak for no deadline

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has introduced revaluation this year but has not set any deadline for the results.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has introduced revaluation this year but has not set any deadline for the results. Already under criticism for charging a “hefty” fee, which works out to Rs 700 for reassessment of each subject, the Board has now come under fire from education experts for being non-committal on deadline. They said revaluation results should be out within a week of applying.

MSBSHSE guidelines on the revaluation reads,“Revaluation is an additional facility for improving results of students, and therefore the Board is not responsible for academic loss,if any, caused due to any delay in declaring the revaluation results.”

Civic activist and career counsellor Vivek Velankar said MSBSHSE should give revaluation results to students within a week of application or else the state Board should formally endorse this time-frame as deadline.

“Students, especially those from Class XII,have to take admission to institutes, including at the national level, after results are announced. The revaluation would be beneficial if the outcome is shared on time. Any delay of more than a week would simply be a waste of money of students,” he said.

Senior teacher and educationist Dr AL Deshmukh said a week would be ideal.

For revaluation, candidates need to get a photocopy of the answersheet and apply for it within five days of receiving the photocopies. While MSBSHSE is set to charge Rs 300 for revaluation per subject,it already charges Rs 400 for issuing photocopies of the answersheets of each subject. The candidate, thus, has to pay Rs 700 for revaluation of a single subject.

The MSBSHSE,incidentally, does not have a time frame for issuing photocopies of answersheets to students.

MSBSHSE chairman Sarjerao Jadhav said no deadline was set for revaluation results since the scheme is new. “This will be the first year of implementation. Operational modalities could evolve in future. Therefore,we decided there won’t be a deadline,” he said. He said the endeavour, however, would be to declare the result at the earliest to protect academic interest of students.
