Mantri’s debut novel tells the story of hope, patience and perseverance along with a dose of self-help

He doesn’t come across as a typecast writer with the thick soda glass spectacles, the long wizened locks of hair,or the unruly thinker look, but a conversation with debutant writer, entrepreneur, engineer, and builder Suhas Mantri does reaffirm the simple truths about writers being people who research and think deeply before putting their thoughts to paper.

Mantri, whose debut book,The Comeback-A Story of Bankruptcy and Survival was released on Saturday at the O Hotel, feels that the book is a story that even the commonest of the common would relate to. “It tells the story of a time cycle. We as human beings or even big businesses have to go through a cycle of failure and then success over it. The book tells the story of one such organisation that suffers massive bankruptcy and how the main protagonist of the story manages to stage a dramatic comeback in spite of all that has happened,” says Mantri.

Mantri feels that while many might view the fictional story as a semi-autobiographical account of his own,he feels the story could belong to anyone. “The book in addition to being a fictional story,is also a self-help financial management book, which has a pyramid charted out for anyone who is either an entrepreneur or otherwise. While the story is fictional, the steps, that have been described in the book, taken by the protagonist are pre-tested ones,” he says.

Mantri also feels that while the book talks fiction it tells the story of how good companies come to trouble because of bad management decisions. “There was a time period wherein I went through a difficult phase in my life, and it was plainly because of bad management decisions and a lot ignorance on my part. So I came up with the idea of the book as I wanted to share the management principles that helped me come out of the quagmire,” he says.

While actually sitting down to put his thoughts and ideas to words,Mantri says that it was the vast collection of books that he has that helped him understand the psyche of readers, and write down his ideas in a lucid language. “I think if I can get common people like housewives and middle-class working personnel to relate to the book then I’d have done a good job with it. The story, primarily,is not of a failure, but that of reversing it to enable a person to turn things in his or her favour,” smiles he.

And while Mantri feels that people are not ready to appreciate the importance of patience for success,he says that a never say quit attitude helps. “One really needs to have a lot of patience, and an ability to just never quit,to make it big. It can help even the most bankrupt of people to turn things in their favour. And that is what I hope my book does to people,” he says.
