Reservation to see new entrants

The NCP dominated area is likely to see new entrants due to the reservation of this panel.

The NCP dominated area is likely to see new entrants due to the reservation of this panel. The panel which comprises ward no 136 of NCP corporator Datta Dhankawade and ward no 142 of independent candidate Malan Bhintade is likely to bring in new faces.

NCP corporator Dhankawade whose entire area is covered in this panel cannot contest from this panel as it is reserved for OBC. However,he is keen to push his wife,Vidya Dhankawade, for contesting the elections while Bhintade,an OBC candidate who had bagged the seat as an independent candidate in the last civic elections has declared that she does not want to contest the forthcoming civic elections but is keen to have her nephew Nilesh Bhintade contest from this panel. She however does not want to declare from which party they would contest from for these elections.

Dhankawade says that NCP is yet to take a call for this area which recently witnessed the bypoll as it falls in the Khadakwasla assembly constituency. “With the party being defeated in the polls, there have been several meetings and the NCP is assessing the merit of the candidates for the forthcoming civic polls,”said Dhankawade.

BJP/SS/RPI combine that had their candidate,Bhimrao Tapkir, win for the assembly polls is keen to make a dent into this NCP dominated area. Though there are many names being discussed, the name of BJP member Digambar Davri is top on the list.

Congress and MNS are searching for the candidates and will likey declare the names only next month. Congress members said that they are yet to see any names come up due to the reservation. Incidentally in the 2002 panel elections,it was the Congress corporators who had dominated the panel. However for these polls, names are yet to surface in discussions.

The area which comprises mainly of housing societies on gunthewari plots was merged into the civic limits after 1997. The area was in news for the BRT services and the number of accidents after the pilot of the BRT was rolled out in this area.
