Amidst rallies of Lok Sabha candidates, this one will be different and something to look forward to. A rally by citizens and youth to urge the non-voters to come out and vote and to spread the message that the next city MP will be accountable to Pune residents.
Ameya Jagtap, founder of Youth to youth, which is a co-organiser of this rally said,Pune has 42 percent slum dwellers, out of which 80 percent vote regularly. However, out of the remaining 58 percent, only 30 percent vote. This is the educated lot whose informed votes can make a lot of difference to the city.
Young voters between 18 and 30 years of age are also expected to join the rally in large numbers considering that eight of the voluntary organizations have young members. Our motive to participate in the rally is to pass on the message to the candidates that young voters are informed too and that they cannot us for a ride, said Ameya Jagtap.
The organisers have appealed to the masses to not to take Election Day merely as a holiday, but to exercise the right to vote. Scheduled on Saturday and called the lets vote rally,it is organized by 25 voluntary organizations in the city. Those wanting to join the rally may gather at Fergusson College main gate at 5.30 p.m. It will go via Good Luck chowk to J M road to Modern College chowk to Ghole road and back to Fergusson College main gate.
