Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will preside over the 12th convocation ceremony of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) at Girinagar in Pune on May 15, Monday, the website of the institute announced.
As Defence Minister, Singh is the Chancellor of the DIAT which is an autonomous body under the Department of Defence Research and Development of the Ministry of Defence. He will deliver the convocation address and confer degrees to the graduating students, which also includes serving officers of the Armed Forces and other key institutions.
The DIAT conducts various academic programs such as PhD, MTech and Master of Science (by Research) and many customised short courses in defence and related technologies for officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force, scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and other establishments of the Ministry of Defence, government agencies as well as civilian students and engineers working in industries.
Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and DRDO Chairman, is the Chairman of DIAT’s Governing Body while Dr C P Ramanarayanan is its Vice Chancellor.
The faculty at DIAT are engaged in various academic and research activities and conduct many research and development projects independently and also in collaboration with many academic and research institutions in India and abroad. Among the fields of research at DIAT are engineering branches such as aerospace, electronics, mechanical, metallurgical and materials, technology management, applied mathematics, chemistry and physics and computer science.
