The continuous rain over the past few days has increased water levels in the dams that provide water to the Pune district. Forecasts of more rain in the coming days have raised expectations of further increase in dam levels which will ensure better water availability for agriculture. Of the four dams that supply water to Pune city—Khadakwasla, Temghar, Varsagaon, and Panshet—two have reported higher water levels than last year. Panshet reported a capacity of 34.04 per cent on July 13, compared to 28.03 per cent last year. Temghar (20.35 per cent per cent) also reported higher water levels than last year. The other two dams, meanwhile, reported water leves less than last year - Khadakwasla (49.60 percent per cent) and Warasgaon (20.76 per cent per cent). Pavana dam, which supplies water to Pimpri-Chinchwad, reported a capacity of 21.62 percent, down from 26.38 per cent last year. Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, rain has lashed most of Pune and Maharashtra. Lonavala has reported 193 mm of rainfall, while the Pavana catchment area has reported 132 mm. Temghat (105 mm), Warasgaon (85 mm), Panshet (91 mm), and Khadakwasla (50 mm) have all reported rain in the last 24 hours. The hill station of Mahabaleshwar received 144.8 mm of rainfall. Overall, the monsoon has been revived across Maharashtra, improving the water situation in the dam and the availability of water for irrigation.
