Retired police inspector brutally attacked in Pune’s Wanwadi over ‘dispute’

The Wanwadi police said they have identified the assailant who allegedly used a stone to attack Vazeer Shaikh.

The process of lodging a first information report (FIR) in this regard is underway at the Wanwadi police station.

A retired police inspector was brutally attacked near Samvidhan Chowk in Pune’s Wanwadi area on Friday night, following which he was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

According to the police, the victim, Vazeer Shaikh, was attacked with a stone and sustained injuries. The process of lodging a first information report (FIR) in this regard is underway at the Wanwadi police station.

Senior police inspector Sanjay Patange said, “The attack took place around 11.30 pm. We have identified the assailant. Prima facie, a financial or property-related dispute appears to be the cause behind the incident. An investigation is on.”

The police said a team rushed to the spot on being alerted of the attack and initiated a probe. The officer retired from service this year.
