A young engineer committed suicide at his residence in Pimple Gurav on Thursday. Police identified the deceased as Sanket Vishwas Genjage.
Police said Genjage’s parents alleged he had been selected for a job in the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd but was frustrated after MAHAGENCO officials did not recruit him.
Police said Genjage, a software engineer, was preparing for competitive examinations. A good sportsman, his parents told police that he had earlier cleared the examination for the post of police sub-inspector but did not join as he was not interested. Meanwhile, he cleared the examination for the post at MAHAGENCO and was keen to join. Inspector Prabhakar Dhage said, “As per the information given to us by his parents, Genjage had applied for the examination as an ST candidate and a sportsman.
He was selected for the MAHAGENCO post under sports category. But he was apparently frustrated because even after selection, he was not recruited, whereas those who scored less than him had joined. So the parents filed a complaint against MAHAGENCO officials.”
Dhage said they have booked three officials at MAHAGENCO’s Bandra office under Section 306, 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
“We have initiated investigation. We will be writing to MAHAGENCO authorities for information about Genjage’s selection and whether there was any delay and wrongdoings due to which he was not recruited. Further action will be taken on the basis of investigations,” he said.
