Moderate rain in Pune city today, likely to bring mercury down: IMD

Due to interaction of winds in the Easterly trough and a trough in the Westerlies, parts of Maharashtra such as Dhule Nandurbar,Jalgaon Nashik, Buldhana and Akola are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning. On Monday most of Vidharbha is also expected to get rains. Pune and its surrounding regions are also likely to see light to moderate rainfall with a few spells of heavy to heavy rainfall. Pune is expected to record a dip in minimum temperature from Monday onwards owing to the rains.

After days of clear skies and normal range of temperature, Pune has started witnessing cloudy skies. This is because of the incursion of moisture laden winds from the Easterlies which caused the formation of the clouds. Active Western Disturbance (moisture carrying wind which causes rain and snow in the northern parts of the country) and a trough has led to formation of conditions suitable for rainfall. Along with rainfall, hail storms are expected in North and North Eastern parts of the state while other parts of the state would receive moderate to light rainfall.

Due to the rainfall, Pune’s minimum temperature is expected to dip by 2-3 degree Celsius. At present the minimum temperature of the city is around 17-18 degrees which is expected to dip further.
