The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has asked school buses and vans to renew fitness certificates ahead of the new academic year in Maharashtra.

The certificates should be obtained from the Dive office in Purandar taluka, which will be open on weekends and government holidays exclusively to deal with school buses and vans, said Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale in a statement issued on June 2.

As per the academic calendar released by the Maharashtra School Education Department, the academic year begins on June 16 for most of the state, except for Vidarbha, where it begins on June 23.

Bhosale has said that all school and college managements, along with private school bus owners should register at the main RTO office to renew their vehicle fitness certificate as soon as possible.

The brake test track at the Dive office will continue to function normally for school vehicles and other types of transport vehicles, the officer said.

Bhosale also mentioned that if any school bus owners or any organisation face difficulties in renewing their fitness certificates, they should report the matter to the notice of the Deputy Regional Transport Officer.

Any school transport vehicle found plying without a valid fitness certificate may face legal action, the officer added.
