In response to the mosquito problem in Kharadi, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated thorough fogging operations and commenced the removal of water hyacinth from the Mutha river flowing through the vicinity. The presence of mosquitoes had been causing inconvenience to residents, with complaints escalating until action was taken. Assistant Health Officer of PMC, Suryakant Deokar asserted that the breeding spots created by water hyacinth in the Mutha river were the main reason for the mosquito menace. "The main reason for mosquito meance in Kharadi is due to the breeding spot created due to water hyacinth in Mutha river. Its a fact that swarm mosquitoes are moving around the area but unless the breeding spots are tackled there would be no reduction in their population," he said Deokar said that Fogging operations have been undertaken in localities since February 10 to address the issue. Dilip Pawra from the Civic Environment Department stated that the removal of water hyacinth began last week, with efforts underway to clear it from the river stretch near Kharadi. "The removal of water hyacinth had begun last week and some of it removed in the upstream of Mutha river flow downstream and get stuck in river stretch near Kharadi. "The water hyacinth in Mundhwa area next to Kharadi grew due to pollution of river water," he said adding the work to remove it has also begun and will be completed in the next few days.
