Pune commuters traveling from Pune to Mumbai are likely to see a surge in taxi prices, probably starting next month after the revised fares are implemented.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has announced a hike in the fare of yellow-black non-AC taxis and blue-silver AC taxis (Cool Cabs) running from Mumbai to different routes, which will affect passengers travelling between Pune and Mumbai route as well.
Following the demands of Mumbai taxi drivers to increase taxi fares to Shirdi, Nashik, and Pune, MMRTA held a meeting last month and announced revised fares for commuters. Drivers’ unions in Mumbai have been demanding the implementation of taxi fares according to the Khatua committee’s recommendations since December 2021.
The implemented fares will be imposed on three routes: Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Shirdi, and Mumbai-Pune. While Pune does not offer yellow-black taxi services, it is limited to Mumbai. However, blue-silver AC taxis do operate on the Pune-Mumbai route.
An RTA official informed that passengers boarding from Mumbai will have to pay Rs 50 extra from the previous fares for both AC and non-AC taxis when traveling to Pune. While passengers boarding from Mumbai have to pay Rs 100 more for Nashik and Rs 200 more for Shirdi.
The revised fare for non-AC taxis on the Mumbai-Pune route will be Rs 500 instead of Rs 450, and for AC taxis, it will be Rs 575 instead of Rs 525. The fare for AC taxis on the Mumbai-Nashik and the Mumbai-Shirdi routes will be Rs 575 and Rs 825, instead of the current Rs 475 and Rs 625 respectively.
However, the RTA has not announced the date for the implementation of this fare hike, but the revised fare structure is most likely to come into effect from next month.
RTA revised the fares last in August 2021 for the Mumbai-Pune route, but they remained unchanged for the Pune-Nashik and Pune-Shirdi routes for the last twelve years.
