Pune News Highlights: Today marks the final day of the Ganesh Festival — or Anant Chaturdashi — as Pune and surrounding areas bid farewell to their beloved deity Ganpati Bappa. The chants of ‘Ganapati Bappa Moraya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya‘ — urging the revered deity to come soon next year — are resonating through the streets as thousands have gathered to celebrate amidst charged atmosphere with rhythmic beats of Dhol Tasha drums, music and colours.
Pune City police have deployed over 6,000 personnel to maintain law and order during the Ganesh immersion processions. Traffic changes and road closures began at 7 am today and will remain in effect until the processions conclude on Wednesday. Additionally, a complete ban on heavy vehicles was implemented for both today and tomorrow.
What’s the weather like today? Pune is expected to be mostly dry with a cloudy sky on Tuesday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). There may be very light rain in a few areas, but this is unlikely to disrupt the Ganesh Visarjan procession, which starts at Laxmi Road around 9 am and continues into the night.

People are gathering near the Shrimant Dagduseth Halwai Ganapati Trust temple before the procession. Police urge them to keep moving to avoid blocking traffic.
A police vehicle in the convoy of BJP leader and Maharashtra Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil was hit by a car in the early hours of Tuesday. No injuries were reported in the incident, officials said.
The incident took place around 12.30 am near Ashish Garden Hall on DP Road in Kothrud. “A Hyundai Venue car rammed into the police vehicle, a Mahindra Scorpio, from the minister’s convoy. The police vehicle has been damaged but the car that rammed into it suffered more damage. But since its airbags opened, no injuries were reported in the incident,” said a police officer. (Read More)
Sarju Nat, a 28-year-old from the Nat Adivasi community in Chhattisgarh, has brought his family's traditional acrobat act to Pune. Dr Sandeep Butala has been setting up an ambulance at the same spot on Tilak road for the last 19 years to help people in case an emergency arises.
He keeps medicines and other essentials for heart attack, blood pressure, sugar, dehydration, etc for pre ICU treatment. For the ambulance Butala seeks help of the Dnyaneshwar Shelke and Emergency medical service (EMS) professional in arranging the ambulance.
“Every year we are set up here at 11:00 AM and are available till the next day until processions are over and everyone has returned home safely. On an average we have to usually send the ambulance five times in a year. Once a person suffered a heart attack and we immediately took him to hospital, the road was jam packed but everyone got out of the way very quickly.”
"Dr. Milind Bhoi, social activist, motivational speaker, and Hon. Member of the Youth Policy, Government of Maharashtra, reported that since this morning, a total of 24 patients have been taken to the hospital due to the heat, dehydration, and extreme noise from dhol tasha."
Gulab Nobin, 24, from West Bengal, has been working for the past year making milkshakes and cold coffee at Samadhan Hotel.
"I enjoy when the procession goes through these lanes; it adds joy to my monotonous work schedule," he says.
"The Ganpati celebrations here remind me of Durga Puja in Bengal, which I’ve been missing every year due to work and financial constraints. So far, I've had 30 to 40 customers. People are looking for something cold in this scorching heat, and I’m happy to help."
Police have issued orders mandating Ganesh Mandals to ensure compliance with the noise pollution regulations. A total of 126 teams equipped with noise level meters have been deployed to take action against any mandals violating these rules.
To promote eco-friendly Ganesh Visarjan, residents within Pune's city limits are gathering under the Z Bridge near Deccan Gymkhana to immerse small Lord Ganesha statues. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Bharati Vidyapeeth University and local government officials."

Kasba Ganapati the first of the five Manache Ganapatis has reached Belbaug Chowk at 11.30 am. True to its age old tradition the Mandal used a Palanquin to carry the idol of Lord Ganesh. Arrival of Kasba Ganapati, who is also the Gramdevata of Pune, marks the start of the procession.
45 trainee doctors from Seth Tarachand Ramnath Charitable Ayurvedic hospital are on duty for a full 24 hours. Dr. Borse, who has been on duty during Ganpati visarjan for the past 12 years, reports, "In the last hour alone, we treated two cases: one man injured in the crowd and another experiencing health issues due to the loud dhol tasha noises."
He adds, "We are fully prepared with everything from glucose to oxygen to address any medical emergencies that may arise."

From sunrise, people have been queuing up at Laxmi Road to bid goodbye to Ganpati. Chitra Shelar, 42, is among the crowd and she captures the sentiment. “We are here since 6 am and started to prepare the decoration, rangoli and everything that is needed. We are very excited and happy to take part in this Miravnuk at Laxmi Road,” she said.
The mood is joyous as people wait for the Ganpati processions to start, especially the Manache paanch ganpati. Sachin from Rastiya Kala Academy said, “Manache Pach Ganpati are getting ready for the Miravnuk. Around noon, the first Ganpati will start its procession."
The points on important roads, from where the traffic has been diverted are Balgandharva Chowk on Jangli Maharaj Road, Good Luck Chowk for Fergusson College Road, Gadgil statue for Shivaji Road, Volga Square for Satara Road, Savarkar statue for Bajirao road and Nal Stop for Karve Road.
A separate set of traffic changes have been implemented in Dhayari Phata, Keshav Nagar - Mundhwa and Sasane Nagar - Hadapsar.
In a groundbreaking initiative, the Kasba Ganpati, the first Manache Ganpati, has been sculpted using patented eco-friendly material by Pune-based sculptor Abhijit Dhondphale.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged my contribution to the eco-friendly initiative in his Mann Ki Baat address, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices in modern times. Shivaji Road and Laxmi Road have been closed from 7 am. Tilak Road, Bagade Road, Guru Nanak Road have been closed for traffic from 9 am. Ganesh Road and Kelkar Road have been closed from 10 am. Bajirao Road, Shastri Road and Kumthekar Road will be closed for traffic From 12 pm onwards .
From 4 pm onwards vehicular traffic on key arterial roads including Jangli Maharaj Road, Karve Road, Fergusson College Road, Bhandarkar Road, Pune-Satara Road, Solapur Road and Prabhat Road will be stopped.

Pune city police have appealed to the Ganesh mandals in the city to avoid playing “pressure mode” musical equipment, which creates a loud noise, during the Ganesh immersion procession on September 17 and 18.
Strict legal action will be taken against Ganesh mandals and disc jockeys (DJs) if they cause violation of the sound pollution norms laid down by the Supreme Court of India and the National Green Tribunal, said a press release issued on Saturday by Deputy Commissioner of Police G Shridhar.
Police have issued prohibitory orders against the use of high-intensity light beams and high-decibel sound systems. Additionally, flying drones is prohibited without prior authorization. Pune Rural police and Pimpri Chinchwad police have also deployed maximum personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival.
