BJP leader Ganesh Bidkar Thursday received an anonymous extortion call over WhatsApp demanding Rs 25 lakh.

Following the call, Bidkar, 50, a resident of Somwar Peth, lodged a first information report (FIR) at the Cyber police station of the Pune city police.

As per the FIR, Bidkar received an anonymous call over WhatsApp while participating in a Ram Navami celebration around 9.30 pm on Thursday. The person who made the call abused Bidkar and demanded Rs 25 lakh while threatening to damage his political career.

The police have booked the unidentified person under sections 384, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. A probe has been launched to identify and arrest the accused.

Bidkar is a former corporator and a senior leader of the BJP in Pune.
