According to the police, when the police asked the driver to re-direct his vehicle he allegedly called his family members who also abused the officials. An autorickshaw driver in Pune was arrested for allegedly pelting stones at a police team and security forces during a route march taken out from the Parvati area, ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, on Friday evening.
A few police officials were injured in the incident, the police said.
The police said the accused Somnath Chowdhary, 40, a resident of Janta Vasahat, Parvati, allegedly blocked the route march, comprising officers and staffers of the Pune city police and security forces, near Shankar Temple in Janta Vasahat around 6 pm with his autorickshaw.
The wife of Chowdhary also allegedly bit the hand of a woman police constable, leaving her injured.
According to the police, when the police asked the driver to re-direct his vehicle he allegedly called his family members who also abused the officials.
The police have also booked his family members under sections 118(1), 125(a), 126(2), 131, 115(2), 352, 132, 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Assistant police inspector Gangadhar Ghawate said that it was learnt that the autorickshaw driver was drunk.
The police have registered a case at the Parvati station on Saturday.
