Pune Airport records increase in number of daily flights
These developments are part of the government's UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme

With the increase in intra-state flights and the operation of a new terminal, Pune International Airport (PIA) recorded a rise in daily flights from around 180 to 200, according to airport officials.
PIA director, Santosh Dhoke, attributed the increase in flights to PIA’s new terminal launching as well as operations commencing at Nanded and Sindhudurg airports.
“New airports and flights connecting regional destinations are obvious reasons behind the increase in flights from Pune. However, the operation of the new terminal is another contributing factor. Previously, we handled around 95 arrival and 95 departure flights daily, which has now exceeded 100 for both arrivals and departures, breaking previous records,” he said.
Nanded and Sindhudurg airports began operations to boost regional air connectivity. Nanded Airport, serving the Marathwada region, resumed flights to major cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad. Sindhudurg Airport, located near the Konkan coast, was launched in 2021 to connect this tourist destination with cities such as Mumbai and Pune.
These developments are part of the government’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to make air travel more affordable and accessible in underserved regions.
“There are now more flights connecting Pune to other cities in different states, such as Goa, Bhopal, and Jabalpur. Additional efforts and coordination have been made by our minister, Murlidhar Mohol,” Dhoke added.
