Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Vice Chancellor Suresh Gosavi asked the Passing Out cadets of the National Defence Academy (NDA) to prepare themselves for unconventional warfare comprising misinformation campaigns, cyber threats, economic sanctions and geopolitical manouverings.

Gosavi was addressing the Passing Out cadets of the 145th course of the NDA on Wednesday at the convocation ceremony held at the Habibullah Hall of the academy. NDA Commandant Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar welcomed the chief guest and addressed the Passing Out cadets.

In his address to the cadets, Gosavi said, “The world you are about to enter, challenges are multi-faceted and solutions demand more than just brute force. In the modern battlefield, battles are not fought only with weapons but with information, diplomacy and innovation. Unconventional warfare includes misinformation campaigns, cyber threats, economic sanctions and geopolitical manouverings. Such wars cannot be won by physical prowess alone.”

Gosavi added, “The enemies you encounter may not always be wearing uniforms. In these times, the ability to comprehend nuances of cultural, political, geographical and economic landscapes is as vital as the ability to read battlefields. In this your continuous education plays a paramount role.” He further said, “Education is intended to build character. It is not merely a means of acquiring knowledge but a crucible where character is forged and a deep sense of duty is instilled. There can be no better guiding principle for you than the academy’s motto Seva Paramo Dharma (Service Before Self).”

Deputy Commandant Major General Sanjeev Dogra delivered the vote of thanks.
